Scheduled my First Tour......to a childcare centre

Wow my first tour! How exciting!

But where to?

We will be heading to Kinderland Pre School at Marine Parade.

This school provides

  • Pre Nursery (Toddlers) Programme (18 mths – 2+ yrs )
  • Nursery 1 Programme (2 yrs – 3 yrs )
  • Nursery 2 To Kindergarten 2 Programme (4 yrs – 6 yrs )

Some parents may be looking at Infant Care. This is not available at Kinderland Pre School at Marine Parade.

The centres that provide Infant Care services are:
Kinderland @ SengKang
Kinderland @ Republic Polytechnic
Kinderland @ Hougang
Kinderland @ Ministry of National Development

Back to my visit....

Unknowingly, I arranged the centre tour to be on 6 October, which happened to be a Children's Day. So there was a celebration in the centre rather than a normal curriculum day for the little ones in school.

Kinderland Pre School is located at 87, MARINE PARADE CENTRAL, #03-201, SINGAPORE 440087. It can only be accessed by one elevator.

Gosh, this is embarrassing. I can't recall the name of the lady who tour us the centre. Lets call her J.

J greeted us and little M warmly. While giving little M time to warm up to a new environment, there is a registration form to be completed. Before entering the compound, J took our temperature and gave us the hand rub for hand hygiene purpose.

I didn't take any photos during the tour cos I am unsure if it is allowed. So bear with me with this lengthy post.

The main reception area is divided into two, namely an area for reception/information counter, the other is the shoes racks for students. Well organised I would say.

Guests will have to remove their shoes at the information/reception area before entering the actual school compound. Little M removed his shoes and walked his way through the compound by himself! Yes my little M started to walk even before he turned 1 year.

This school does not have the open concept classrooms. Each level (be it PN, N1, N2, K1 or K2) has their respective classrooms whereby they will not disturb each other by the noise level.

J informed us each classroom is the place where the PN/N1/N2/K1/K2 learn, play, eat and sleep.

PN class was having their snacks during our visit. 2 teachers (1 English and 1 Mandarin speaking) were caring for hmmm...I can't remember how many children were there but definitely more than 10 of them.

First impression upon entering this PN class, there are pieces of food on the ground. Been a 13 month old little M, he will pick anything on the floor and pop into his mouth. So I knelt down holding the shy little M and making sure he doesnt pick up and pop in.

The little children were well behaved and seated around the table. Some children offered little M their snacks. Very cute and nice of them to share. But remember at this age, their hands will have their saliva with the food. So again, I have to make sure little M doesn't take and eat them.

As I was kneeling down, guess what I saw....more food/snacks under the tables and on the floor. I hope all these small pieces of food/snacks are the doing of the current snack session and the teachers will clean them up once snack time is over.

They have a Music room, which is equipped with pianos that take up most of the space in the room. We were told that the older children will play the piano while the PN will sit at a corner of the Music room to listen. It can be quite a tight squeeze for the children.

Along the corridors, the teachers are generally friendly and smiley. Some tried to talk to the shy little M who will just hide behind me.

The older children were having games in one of the rooms where we can see that they are truly enjoying themselves.

Food wise, Kinderland does not have a kitchen, so all the meals for the children are from SATS Catering.

Daddy W asked J about the curriculum for PN/N1. J showed the chart on environment which didn't really match the expectation of Daddy W.

We came to the restrooms for the children. This is the one that shocked us. Have you been to a public toilet? Yes, it smell like one from the corridor. This is a big NO for Daddy W cos of hygiene reason.

Lastly, J introduced us to the Media room where children can listen to story using media devices.

Location wise: This is a familiar ground as we will always head over to Parkway Parade over the weekends. So...

  • It is nearer but not that near to our current residence. And it is along the way to work (as we take ECP to work)
  • Parking around Marine Parade Central is not an issue. Plentiful of carparks.
  • It is at Marine Parade Central where there is a hawker centre and it is located beside Parkway Parade. Dinner is just minutes away.

Frankly speaking, after the restroom, Daddy W has more or less made his decision.

By the way, J was telling us that Kinderland will be undergoing renovation to upgrade their facilities. They will be including a rock climbing facility.

Renovation with new facilities may revamp the whole centre. Who knows.

  1. Nice post! Preschool provides continuous interaction and exposure with children of same age group and teachers help them to enhance their communication skills.
